Race Report

Sunday March 30th

Race 1: Paul Dewey, Mark Reed, Sean Leedell, Paul Woods, M Sewell

Race 2: Reed, Dewey, Terry Gotobed, Sewell, S Leedell, Woods, Daniel Rea

Final: Reed,Terry Gotobed, S Leedell, Tony Leedell, Rodney Swain, Sewell

Mark Reed came through to win the final on the penultimate lap. Demoting Terry Gotobed

Heat one saw Paul Woods out in a new car, having built it in a week after totalling his previous one. David Lambert got the best start to lead into the first bend but Woods soon put him down a place on the second lap. Woods going on to lead until the twelfth lap, when Last years champion Paul Dewey caught and passed, another lap saw Reed and Sean Leedell also through, That’s the order they finished in, Mark Sewell fifth from Daniel Rea.

Heat two, Woods got the lead from the off but his under steering car soon had Gotobed nipping under him. He managed to hold on in second for a further five laps, then succumbed to the advances of Sewell. Sewell lost it and in the confusion Reed took his chances and nipped through to second, Sewell recovering into fifth. Reed then went on to take the lead with three laps to spare, Dewey also got through for second both had started from a half lap handicap. Gotobed third followed by the recovered Sewell, S Leedell and Woods in the final positions.

The Final. Gotobed took the lead from Dan Steele on the third lap and only lost it one from home to Reed. Reed mounting a storming drive to come through the entire field mostly on the outside. S Leedell third from T Leedell, D Steele and Sewell.

Sunday March 23rd

Race 1: Mark Reed, Sean Leedell, Dan Steele, Tony Leedell, Paul Dewey

Race 2: Bob Hinton, Paul Gray, Daniel Rea, Dewey,Terry Gotobed, Terry Sewell

Final: T Leedell, Rea, Reed, Dewey, Gray, Hinton, David Hales

The final win went to Tony Leedell but he didn’t do so well in the heats. Heat one was led away by Bob Hinton, he hung on in front for six laps but then fell back, as first Dan Steele and finally Mark Reed went through to the front. Reed still there when it mattered most, Sean Leedell snapping at his rear over the last few laps but not able to put a passing move on him, Steele third from T Leedell and Paul Dewey. Early leader Hinton had dropped to tenth by the flag. Also of mention was David Lambert who had built a new car in a week, after totalling his Nissan at the last meeting bringing it home eleventh.

Heat two, Hinton was really getting the hang of things this time, starting very quickly to lead into the first corner, Lambert initially offering the closest challenge. With six laps gone Paul Gray was with them, then passed Lambert into second but he could do nothing only follow in Hinton wheel tracks, that’s how they ran until three from home. We then had a very tight group of five looking for the lead. Has they entered the pits bend they got to close, the resultant tap nudge saw cars spinning in all directions, Sean Leedell coming of the worst with a very badly bent car, with brother Tony also involved, not good for the family, Daniel Rea and Gray being the others involved. Following a steward’s inquiry, the result was given as First Hinton followed by Gray, Rea, Dewey and Steele.

The final Hinton set off again looking like a winner, this time though T Leedell was out to avenge the family honour and came storming through to the front with only five laps done. Hinton hung on grimly but finally drifted wide allowing Rea to lead the pack of S Leedell, (who had worked wonders in the pits to get his car back out, stuck together with tape). Reed, Dewey and Gray. With ten laps done the Leedell car succumbed to its injuries and he was out. Rea going second, that was the last change of position and they finished in the order of first T Leedell then Rea, Reed, Dewey and Gray. Hinton just out of the points in seventh.

Sunday March 9th Standard Rods,

Richard Kisbee initially led heat one but the more experienced Tony Leedell took up the running from lap two, he in turn lost it a lap later to Paul Woods. Woods held the position for the next six laps, until Mick Walker got it all together and made his move for the lead. Walker hung on in the lead to the end, but Woods went backwards until finally finishing in seventh. Sean Leedell trying all the way to the end but had to settle for second, followed by Mark Reed, last seasons champion Paul Dewey in fourth, Daniel Rea holding off T Leedell for the other places.

Result: Walker, S Leedell, Read, Dewey, Rea, T Leedell, Paul Woods

Race two, Again Kisbee led away with Woods and T Leedell in close company. Five laps gone and Kisbee was down to fifth leaving Woods with the lead from T Leedell and S Leedell. Woods hung on for a further five laps but then succumbed to the Leedell advances, S Leedell going through taking Reed and Dewey with him. The only other move before the flag came down was Rea forcing his way past Woods this earned the stewards displeasure and he was docked the position in the results these being:

S Leedell, Reed, Dewey, Woods, Rea, Mark Sewell, Paul Gray, Hinton

The Final was a run away win for Rea, Dewey coming through for second towards the end just managing to fend off S Leedell to the flag. Woods fourth from Sewell and Bob Hinton.

Result:  Rea, Dewey, S Leedell, Woods, M Sewell, Hinton, Gray
