FORMULA RULES

The following are a generalization only. Reference should be made to the official rule book.

JUNIOR RODS

This is a non-contact class, consisted of Mini's only, for 12-16 year olds.

Only standard mini saloons permitted up to 1100cc. GT type's are not permitted. Cars must be right-hand drive.

Engines

1) A maximum of 0.060" overbore will be allowed. The engine number, cylinder head number and code MUST be clearly visible. The cylinder head MUST be the equivalent standard type. Head thickness may be reduced by 0.025". Pistons must not protrude over the surface of the block. Minimum head thickness for the 1000cc mini will be 2.680". Minimum head thickness for the 1100cc mini will be 2.700".

2) There must be NO TUNING whatsoever. 

3) There must be no twin carburetors. The original type inlet and exhaust manifolds must be fitted together with original carburetor. An air filter must be fitted.

4) A FULL standard exhaust must be fitted and may be shortened by 6" to finish under the rear valence. Exhausts are not allowed inside the car.

5) Fuel pumps and ignition systems must remain standard. Bolt on ignition units are NOT permitted.

Wheels & Tyres

1) Competition tyres are NOT permitted. All tyres must be of a road legal type.

2) Standard 10" x 5J one piece wheel complete with 145x10 tyres or standard 12" x 4J one piece wheel complete with 145x70x12 tyres.

3) Weller wheels to the above sizes may be used. NO ALLOY WHEELS

4) All wheels must be the same size in all respects and be confined under the bodywork. Mini City and Mayfair etc. must retain wheel spats. Replacement Steel arches are allowed but must be to the original spec.

5) The maximum width of any car will be 57".

6) Spaced rear drums must not be fitted to the front wheels of the car.

7) NO negative camber is allowed on front wheels.

Bodyshell

1) A manufactured competition bucket seat with harness slots must be fitted. A competition harness (minimum 5 point) complete with crutch strap must be fitted with eye bolts.

2) No addition ironwork is allowed. Seam welding is NOT permitted.

3) The front bodyline MUST remain as originally manufactured. Any replacement radiator grill must not be stronger than the original manufacturers grill.

4) Headlight recesses MUST be covered (max 20G). The opening of the radiator must be no less than originally manufactured and must be in the original position.

5) All bumpers must be removed.

6) Standard gas shock absorbers are permitted. Adjustable shock absorbers are not permitted. The only acceptable replacement Gas Shock Absorbers are: 

FRONT: Monroe part number 22045. REAR: Monroe part number 21531

7) Bent shock absorbers and parts must be replace. Cross members must NOT be modified or welded in any way. The car must not be lowered.

8) All cars must be smartly presented and painted at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.

All that is not mentioned must remain as standard. Please consult the official rule book before building your car.

 

STANDARD RODS

This is a non contact class for people over 16 years old.

Cars must be a standard saloon upto 1300cc. No GT or MG types. the following are not allowed: Fort Cortina, Ford Sierra, Ford Capri, Fiat Strada, Fiat Uno, Alfasud, FSO, Lada, Lancia, yugo or Nissan Europe.

Engines

1) A maximum overbore of 0.060" is allowed. All original engine numbers must remain.

2) There must be NO tuning or alterations whatsoever.

3) Head thickness may be reduced by 0.025". Pistons must not protrude over the surface of the block.

4) There must be no twin carburetors.

5) the original type inlet and exhaust manifolds must be fitted together with the original COMPLETE carburetor for the engine size and car.

6) An air filter must be fitted. It must be securely fitted at all times.

7) All Vauxhall & Opel cars must use a 3.94:1 diff with a 1.96:1 gear cluster.

8) A FULL standard exhaust system must be fitted. It may be shortened by a maximum of 6" to finish under the rear valence. Exhausts are not permitted inside the car.

9) Fuel pumps and ignition systems must remain standard. Bolt on ignition units are NOT permitted.

10) Purpose made oil coolers may be fitted, but must be securely fitted under the bonnet. Pipes must be fitted with proper connections. No jubilee clips.

Wheels & Tyres

1) Any one piece steel wheel may be fitted, as follows:

10" wheels may be used up to 5 1/2J

12", 13" and 14" wheels may be used up to 5 1/2J

NO ALLOY WHEELS

Wheels must not be modified or drilled to allow fitting to other cars

2) All wheels must be the same size in all respects.

3) The bodywork must not be altered to accommodate these wheels. Wheel-arches must not be cut-out. Wheels and tyres must remain in the confines of the original bodyline. Trailer type wheel-arch edging MUST NOT be used.

4) Tyres must be any general purpose road tyre up to 185 wide. 60 profile minimum.

5) Competition tyres are NOT allowed.

6) Tyre gaiters are NOT permitted.

Bodyshell

1) No addition ironwork is allowed, but angle or dexion type material (max 1mm thick) may be used to fix radiators in any reasonable position close to the original.

2) Seam welding is NOT permitted.

3) All tailgates must remain in full. the front bodyline MUST remain as originally manufactured. Any original radiator grill MUST be fitted in original position and easily detachable. Bonnets must be securely fitted with metal catches. Fabricated radiator grills are NOT allowed.

4) Head light recesses may be covered but sheet metal across the front of the car will not be allowed. The opening of the radiator must be no less than originally manufactured and remain in the standard position.

5) All bumpers must be removed, with the exception of bodyline bumpers which must remain eg. Mazda, Nova

6) Standard replacement gas shock absorbers are permitted. Adjustable shock absorbers are NOT permitted. Competition Shock Absorbers are not permitted, eg Bilstein/Leda

7) Bent suspension legs, shock absorbers and parts must be replaced. Cross members must NOT be modified or welded in any way. Coil springs must remain standard to the car and must NOT be lowered or strengthened in any way

8) All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.

Replacement parts must be Standard.

STOCK RODS

This is a non contact class for people over 16 years old.

Cars must be a standard saloon type as produced by the manufacturers. The following cars are NOT permitted: Ford Cortina, Ford Sierra, Ford Capri or of similar size.

Engine

1) The maximum engine size is 1400c. A maximum overbore of 0.060" will be allowed. All original engine numbers must remain.

2) There must be NO TUNING whatsoever. No conversion from front wheel drive to rear, or from rear wheel drive to front.

3) Twin carburetors are not permitted

4) Engines must be 12 valve max. No fuel injection, no turbos.

5) Camshafts are free choice, but metal must not be removed to accommodate. Flywheels only may be lightened and balanced. The original type inlet and exhaust manifolds must be fitted together with the original carburetor for the engine size and car.

6) An exhaust system must be fitted to reduce the noise to the recommended level. Exhausts routed through the passenger compartment must be fully covered.

7) Any fuel pump may be used, but ignition systems must remain standard. Bolt on electric ignition units are NOT permitted. Alternators may be removed.

8) Purpose made oil coolers may be fitted, but must be securely fitted under the bonnet. pipes must be fitted with proper connections. No jubilee clips.

9) The 1400cc Vauxhall injection engine MUST be fitted with the PIERBURG 2E3 carburetor with a 20/24, chokes and standard valve springs.

Wheels & Tyres

1) Wheels may be upto 6J. Alloy wheels may be fitted. Wheels must not be drilled or modified to allow fitting to other cars.

2) All wheels must be the same size in all respects.

3) Any road legal tyre may be used up to 205 wide.

4) Tyre gaiters are NOT permitted.

Bodyshells

1) Bodyshells must be fitted with maximum 2" wide trailer arches. Side skirts must join the arches at the same distance. No fibreglass panels.

2) Seam welding is not permitted.

3) All tailgates must remain in full. Roof spoilers are optional. the front bodyline MUST remain original shape and holes may be filled with a max. 18 gauge steel. Any original manufacturers radiator grill MUST be fitted in original position and remain easily detachable. Bonnets must be securely fitted with metal catches.

4) The opening of the radiator must be no less than originally manufactured and remain in the standard position. Fabricated radiator grills are NOT permitted.

5) Bumpers may be removed but holes MUST be filled as per above.

6) Standard replacement gas shock absorbers are permitted. Adjustable shock absorbers are NOT permitted. Competition shock absorbers are permitted eg: Bilstein / Leda, but MUST be of standard fitments inc. pan diameter.

7) Ride height may be altered, but not adjustable. Standard diameter coil springs to fit in cups must be fitted. Poundage may be altered. One spring, one shocker per wheel.

8) Near-side front camber may be altered, but the wheel must remain within the bodyline. Adjustable camber is permitted on the N/S front wheel only. N/S front wheel may be pulled forward.

9) Welded diffs are permitted, but no limited slip or powerlock diffs.

10) Any original manufacturer gearbox in a standard housing may be used.

11) All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.

ECONOMY RODS

This is a non contact for people 16 years and over.

Any small car with a wheel base not exceeding 96" (8ft) with a 1600cc engine. The following are not permitted: Ford Sierra, Ford Capri, Ford Cortina, vans, pick-ups or estates.

Engines

1) The only engines allowed are the 1600cc Ford Pinto (OHC), Crossflow (OHV), or normally aspirated CVH. No Turbo or RS parts allowed.

2) Engines must remain in standard form. Unmodified head and valves must be fitted. the maximum valve sizes are as follows:

Camshaft choice is free, but no machining parts to accommodate is allowed. Vernier timing wheels are permitted. Any single valve spring is permitted. Solid lifters may be used.

3) the only carburetor allowed is the standard 2L Weber 32/36 with 26/27mm chokes of the fixed Venturi type.

4) NO dry sumping allowed but oil coolers may be fitted.

5) Ignition must remain standard to the engine. No bolt on electronic ignition.

6) Electric fuel pumps may be used.

7) Forged pistons are NOT allowed. Pistons must remain of the standard replacement type. Original manufacturers numbers must remain on pistons.

8) Four branch manifolds may be used but must be a standard fitment to the engine being used. The MAXIMUM EXTERNAL diameter must not exceed 38mm. All cars MUST be securely fitted with a silencer which will reduce the noise level down to less than 95 decibels, at full race speed.

9) A 1600cc flywheel must be used. Flywheels are not permitted to be lightened. A minimum of 14lbs will apply.

10) Alternators may be removed.

11) Gearboxes must be standard and original type to the engine used.

Suspension

The suspension must be the standard format. One spring, one shocker per wheel. The wheelbase must remain as originally manufactured.

1) Any standard production type suspension and parts must be fitted.

2) Anti tramp bars, pannard rods and strut braces are allowed

3). Rear shock absorbers may be turreted. Rear suspension may be fabricted and mounted from the roll cage. Fabricated parts must NOT be adjustable. All parts must be rubber mounted, NO rose joints.

4) Near side front camber may be altered, but the wheel must remain within the bodyline. Adjustable camber is permitted. N/S front wheel may be pulled forward.

5) Front turrets may be altered to accommodate struts but must remain steel NOT spaceframed.

6) Coil springs may be shortened.

7) Locked diffs are allowed, but limited slip or power lock diffs are not.

8) The following are not allowed:

a. Adjustable spring ride height, adjustable front struts, adjustable rear shock absorbers.

b. Adjustable dampers

c. Compression struts

Wheels & Tyres

1) The only wheel width allowed is the 7". Alloy wheels are permitted.

2) Racing slicks wet or dry, to a maximum of 8" may be used. 8.2" tyres are NOT permitted. Road tyres are NOT allowed at any time.

Bodyshell

1) NO fibreglass parts are permitted. Seam welding is NOT permitted. NO additional ironwork is allowed. A strut brace is permitted.

2) All wheels must be covered by trailer arches, joined together by side skirts. Maximum track width 5'10". Internal bracing is NOT allowed behind any exterior panel, excluding doors. A replacement front panel 18 gauge thick may be used.

3) The front bodyline must remain as originally manufactured. An original manufacturers radiator grill MUST be fitted, but must remain easily detachable. NO fabricated radiator grills are permitted. The opening for the radiator MUSt remain in the original position and no less than originally manufactured.

4) Headlight recesses may be covered but sheet metal across the front of the car is not allowed.

5) When radiator mountings are moved, they may only be refitted with similar type and thickness of material, ie NO box section or angle iron etc.

6) All bumpers must be removed with exception of the bodyline type bumpers which must remain, eg Mazda, Nova etc.

7) Cars may be front or rear wheel drive. Cars may be converted from front to rear, and vice versa, but a full bulkhead MUST remain. The rear of the block must be positioned no further back than the bottom of the original windscreen.

8) No mid-mounted engines.

9) When converting the engine positions, chassis rails may be extended inside the engine bay only, but must end at the original cross-member, max material 50mm x 50mm x 2.5mm. Manufactured chassis rails must not be fitted front to back.

10) All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.

HOT RODS

This is a non contact formula for people 16 years and over.

Engines

1) NO fuel injection, turbo, blower or nitro systems

2) Any steel  single OHC or pushrod engine up to 1761cc is permitted. Tuning on these engines is unlimited.

3) Other 4 cylinder (8 valve) 'Mass' produced engines are permitted up to a max. of 2L.

a. Pistons may be of the performance type

b. No billet steel parts. Cast steel parts are permitted

c. No management systems

d. Dry sump systems are permitted

e. All other tuning is unlimited.

3) 16 valve engines, such as the Vauxhall 16V, are allowed.

a. Up to National Spec. rules.

b. Max 2000cc + 60 thou overbore

c. Dry sump permitted

4) All engines must be securely fitted with a silencer system, to reduce the noise at full race speed to less than 95 decibels. The exhaust may come out the side of the car.

5) All engines MUST be naturally aspirated and MAY be fitted with air cleaner.

6) Roadside pump fuel must be used. Octane booster may be added.

Wheels & Tyres

The only wheels permitted are 8" to 10" wide, 13" diameter, with racing slicks and wets.

Bodyshells

1) Saloon bodied cars only. Capris, Sierras and Cortinas are not allowed.

2) Cars may be front or rear wheel drive, and may be converted, but a full bulkhead MUST be retained.

3) If a windscreen is fitted, wiper blades and washers must be fitted, and in full working order.

4) All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.

SUPASTOX

This is a non contact class for people aged over 16 . THERE IS NO UPPER AGE LIMIT. This class races anti-clockwise.

Rules are per BriSCA F2 rules with the following exceptions:

1) Tyres are racing slicks (dry or wet)

2) No contact is permitted.

3) No wheel guards.

All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick.

BANGERS

This is a contact class for people over 16 years.

Cars up to a maximum of 2000cc, 4 cylinders, 8 valves.

Exclusions are as follows: Granada Mk1 & Mk2, 2L Rover, Toyota Cressada, Saab, all Volvos,  Datsun Laural and any similar sized car to the Ford Fiesta.

NO vans or pick-ups, left hand drives or diesels.

Mk3 Granada may be used, but no twin cam versions.

1) Engines MUST be STANDARD and no more than 2000cc. No tuning whatsoever is allowed. Fuel injection or turbos are not allowed. The original carburetor must be fitted to match the engine.

2) All flammable materials and glass must be removed from the car. Tow bars and fixings must be removed

3) THERE MUST BE NO STRENGTHENING WHATSOEVER. Only the drivers door may be seam welded and must have door plates fitted. The minimum door protection is TWO plates. Both plates must finish MORE than 12" each side of the door pillars and must be a minimum of 12" high and 1/8" thick. Alternatively, the recommendation is a full door plate, from the top of the door to finish lower than the sill.

4) Wings must not be  folded to make extra seams

5) A minimum of 4 point competition harness must be fitted and MUST NOT be extended by means of chains etc. Seats must be firmly secured and any runners must be welded or bolted up. A head restraint MUST be fitted.

6) The minimum roll cage will be two uprights fitted at the door posts and one fitted across the roof. A further bar must be fitted between the uprights at floor level. THe roll cage must be bolted to the floor and roof.

7) CAM BELTS MUST BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES.

8) Radiators may be fitted inside the car but hoses must not hang loose and must be covered by hessian sacking. All overflow pipes must vent below the car floor level. If a steel water tank is fitted, it must be behind the front strut tops. NO STRUT BRACES

9) A PETROL TANK must be securely fitted not exceeding 2 gallons. All petrol pipes must run inside the car and be fitted with a cut off tap. Any original tank MUST be removed.

10) Batteries must be securely fitted and covered. A battery cut off switch must be fitted. Ignition switch MUST be used, no bare wires.

11) Steel wheels must be used to a max of 6J. NO alloys. Tyre width max is 195x60

12) No welded diffs

13) Exhaust systems MUST  be fitted, to reduce noise to less than 95 decibels.

14) All cars must be smartly presented at all times. Roof fins must display numbers at least 9" high and 1" thick. Door numbers must be clearly visible from the opposite side of the circuit, i.e. black on white, and must be displayed on each door.
